Community Guidelines & Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: [DATE]
This is a draft prepared for attorney review before publication.
These Guidelines apply to everyone who uses the Smith Cove Society website ("Site"), and work alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Violating these Guidelines may result in content removal, suspension, or revocation of Neighbor status.
1. General Conduct
- Treat fellow Neighbors, vendors, and visitors with respect and courtesy.
- No harassment, threats, hate speech, discriminatory language, or personal attacks.
- No impersonation of another resident, vendor, board member, or Site administrator.
- No spam, solicitation outside of designated sections (Marketplace, Vendor Village), or unauthorized commercial activity.
2. Marketplace / Exchange Guidelines
- List only items you own or are authorized to sell, lend, or give away.
- Describe items accurately, including known defects or condition issues.
- Do not list prohibited items (see Terms of Service, Section 4.5).
- Do not request or share direct contact information outside of the Site's permission-based request process.
- Meet in safe, public, or well-lit locations for exchanges. Consider bringing another person for high-value transactions.
- Report suspicious behavior, non-payment, or misrepresented items to [MODERATOR CONTACT]. Smith Cove Society may remove a Neighbor's marketplace privileges for repeated complaints but does not adjudicate individual disputes or provide refunds/compensation.
3. Photos & “What's Happening” Guidelines
- Only post photos you have the right to share.
- Obtain consent before posting a recognizable photo of another adult; obtain parental/guardian consent before posting a recognizable photo of a minor.
- Do not post photos taken inside another Neighbor's private home without their permission.
- If asked by a subject (or a minor's parent/guardian) to remove a photo, comply promptly or escalate to [MODERATOR CONTACT].
- Photo galleries are visible to Neighbors only — do not screenshot or redistribute gallery content outside the Site.
4. Meet Your Neighbors / Directory Guidelines
- Directory information is for community connection purposes only.
- Do not use directory contact information for commercial solicitation, political canvassing, or any purpose unrelated to neighborly connection, unless otherwise permitted by the Society.
- Do not share directory information (names, photos, contact details) outside the Site.
5. Community Notices Guidelines
- Notices should be factual and relevant to the community.
- Do not post notices containing unverified accusations against a specific named individual or household.
- Security-related notices should avoid sharing details that could compromise an ongoing investigation; coordinate with [BOARD/MODERATOR CONTACT] on sensitive postings.
6. Charitable Causes Guidelines
- Causes must be legitimate and, where applicable, identify the organizing individual, group, or registered organization.
- Do not use the Charitable Causes section for personal financial solicitation unrelated to a genuine charitable or community need without prior moderator approval.
- Smith Cove Society may request documentation (e.g., nonprofit status, event details) before approving a cause for posting.
7. Vendor Village Guidelines
- Vendors must provide accurate business information and comply with applicable advertising laws.
- Smith Cove Society reserves the right to decline or remove any vendor listing at its discretion, including for unresolved Neighbor complaints.
- [If Vendor Village is a paid service, include terms on refunds, listing duration, and renewal here or in a separate Vendor Agreement.]
8. Content Moderation Process
- All public-facing content is reviewed by a designated moderator before or shortly after publication.
- Content may be edited for clarity or formatting; substantive edits will be flagged to the original poster where practical.
- Content that violates these Guidelines may be removed without notice. Repeated or serious violations may result in suspension or termination of Neighbor status per the Terms of Service.
- Appeals of a moderation decision may be submitted to [APPEALS CONTACT].
9. Reporting Violations
If you encounter content or behavior that violates these Guidelines, report it to [MODERATOR CONTACT]. Reports are reviewed promptly and kept confidential to the extent possible.
10. Changes to These Guidelines
These Guidelines may be updated periodically to reflect community needs. Continued use of the Site after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Guidelines.
